Just log in at peak traffic times, click the "refresh" button on your Web browser and watch the number of members jump by the 4,000 or 5,000 users who just registered. That explosive growth will push MySpace's membership to 42 million by the time you read this - and the site is less than 2 years old.

It's that vast reach that helped take comedian Dane Cook from relative obscurity a year ago to hosting Saturday Night Live last week.

I hate MySpace without a rational reason. I think this article and the millions involved in it must be on to something, but I can't for the life of me figure out what makes it so attractive.

Oh my god yes. I have resisted MySpace, but have ultimately concluded that I've got to do it because it's just expected of a musician now. Still, I can't quite imagine lowering myself to a steady stream of communications that are basically, "You guys RAWK! Come to my show next week." Ugh.
