The Way Back Machine

I read all over the place today that Jason Flom, former Atlantic sweetheart who was "ousted" a few months ago will take over Matt Serletic's post as Virgin's CEO. What I find funny about this news is that there was a time in my life when I spoke to both Flom and Serletic on a daily basis. I'm not sure they were close, but Serletic certainly produced the records that made Flom a success at Lava/Atlantic. I'm positive much has transpired since I left that world back in 2000, but would that I were a fly on the wall when Serletic hands over the keys to the Virgin's castle!

Flom, among other regular business, used to pay me to call radio stations all over the country after hours to request his artists' songs. Serletic, well, he produced Edwin's song I'll Be and then his whole next record. He should be called an over-producer. Kind of like a superhero but not. My old boss named his dog Sir Letic. He did that because the man made him rich with his superpowers of orchestra!

the Serletic-produced "The American" by Angie Aparo is one of my favorite albums evar!

I actually really like that record, too. I know more than a couple of people who don't because of its production, though. Serletic certainly had the master touch for radio.
