TORTS AND CONTRACTS
I spent my last hurrah weekend before serious Maryland Bar study begins in style. Or at least with a lot of red wine, champagne, bourbon, music and cheese. Friday night I tried out Bourbon in Georgetown for the 2nd time. I was there to wish a fond farewell to friends Kris and Amy as they head off to post law school jobs in Denver. The Mittens trio from Boston played the Galaxy Hut on Saturday night. All the cheese went down on Sunday evening with the celebration of Ms. Beck's 30th - happy birthday! On Memorial Monday I took off to Falls Church for the parade, lots of eggrolls and potstickers. The parade was adorable, and keeping in theme, I tried on the mitten puppets that were for sale in the artisan section.
The most interesting thing I learned was that the Venus Fly Trap isn't the only carnivorous plant around. Nature also made some plants that are tube-shaped and halfway filled with their own killer juice. They attract insects with an "intoxicating nectar" around the rim of the tube. The insects fly in to check it out, get disoriented, hit their heads on the upper flap, fall back down into the tube filled with killer juice, and then drown.
Today marks the beginning of back to law school basics for me. It's been 3 years since I graduated from law school but I haven't gotten around to studying for, taking and passing any kind of bar. I'm finally at a place where I'd like to take the stupid test, so I'll be studying every weekday from 6am-8am, and then again from 6pm - 10pm, with tons of hours logged on the upcoming weekends. I'm not looking forward to it, but I figure if I keep telling people this is what I'm doing, I'll feel accountable to myself.
