After surviving two consecutive nights in the Big Hunt, I ended up laying pretty low for the weekend, but I did finally check out Stacy's Coffee Shop and the adjoining CD Cellar in Falls Church yesterday. After a pleasant game of chess (yes, I won victorious) and a yummy bacon, egg, and cheese, I found the new Kris Delmhorst, Jeffrey Foucault, Peter Mulvey disk Redbird in the "slightly scratched" section for about $3. Oh, the dilemma. This is a CD I'd forgotten I wanted but now that I had seen it, I didn't think I could live without it another second; but it might skip, and that makes me crazy.

I decided to go for the purchase. While it does skip in a couple of places, it's still ok, and it seems to be running fine on iTunes, so all's well. The highlight is a cover of my favorite Tom Waits tune, Hold On, with three part harmony.

The liner notes for Redbird state: "Recorded August 13, 14, and 15 2003 in Mark's living room in Fort Atkinson, WI with one stereo microphone onto a portable DAT recorder." So it has that raw unpolished feel to it.
